Ban on wild animals in circuses in Austria to carry on
Posted on 22/12/2011
Eurogroup welcomes the decision made by the Austrian Constitutional Court to dismiss the complaint filed in 2004 by the German Circus Krone against the existing ban on the keeping of wild animals in circuses.
The news has been confirmed by our Member Organisation Vier Pfoten, which sees the verdict as a severe setback for wild animal circuses and Circus Krone, Europe’s largest circus. The organisation also sees this decision as a clear signal effect for Germany, on its way to implement the same ban, although the bill which passed the Bundesrat (Federal Council) on 25 Novermber, suffered an unexpected drawback in the Bundestag (Federal Assembly) last week.
