Big win for CITES species - science trumps politics

Eurogroup attenting the CITES Standing Committee meeting in Geneva welcomes the news that parties rejected a proposal on time-bound listings for CITES species.

This proposal from Norway following COP 15 fall-out on marine species would have set an arbitrary time limit for species protection. NGOs were adamantly against the proposal as it undermined the very nature of the Convention.
