In light of new EU welfare rules, which are set to come into force as of 1 January 2013, Eurogroup praises UK animal welfare organisations RSPCA and CIWF for highlighting the plight of pigs in intensive farming systems and encourage consumers to opt for high welfare products.

Eurogroup for Animals calls on France to strengthen its national legislation on pests, ensure compliance with applicable laws and promote the use of alternative methods of pest control as defined in European Council Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora. Our position has been transmitted as part of the public consultation organised by the French Ministry of Environment which ran until 24 July to seek stakeholder input for the reviewing of the legislation on pests.
