Important discussions to ban ritual slaughter in Poland were held at national level over the past weeks throughout the country. The Polish Constitutional Tribunal declared last week that such slaughter is illegal according to Polish law.

Major General Peter Davies CB has been elected as the next president of Eurogroup for Animals following an extraordinary general Assembly held in Brussels today. He is a well-known and active campaigner in the field of animal welfare and has been involved in many organisations in the sector.

As decided by EU and Korea, Domestic Advisory Groups will monitor the implementation of the chapter on sustainable development included in the bilateral Trade Agreement. Today, Eurogroup for Animals is pleased and proud to announce it has been confirmed by the European Commission as a member of a Domestic Advisory Group. This decision offers a unique opportunity for animal welfare organisations to advise the Committee in charge of sustainable development.

An international seminar was held in Warsaw on March 28-29 on the pan European AWARE project (Animal Welfare in Enlarged Europe), a project funded by the European Commission which aims to promote integration and increase the impact of European research on farm animal welfare throughout the enlarged Europe.
