Commissioner Borg confirms no delay in ban on marketing of cosmetics tested on animals

At a meeting with animal welfare organisations, the new Commissioner for health and consumer policy, Tonio Borg, confirmed that the Commission will not bring out new legislation to weaken the ban on marketing of cosmetics tested on animals.
It is therefore extremely heartening that in March this year, the final ban will come into force and no cosmetic products or ingredients will be allowed to be sold in the EU if tested on animals. This is a great achievement for the EU and for animals. We now call on other countries across the world to follow the position of the EU and to act quickly. The Commissioner also showed his commitment to alternative non-animal methods for all sectors and stated that he is in discussion with his fellow Commissioners to identify funding opportunities.

La législation concerne seulement les animaux vivants.
Les tests sur tissus animaux sont toujours largement autorisés alors que des méthodes substitutives sans tests sur tissus animaux existent et que certaines marques les appliquent et sont donc vegan.
Je vois pas trop en quoi c’est moins grave vu qu’un animal a été tué ou exploité pour ça :/.

Cette interdiction du 11 mars reste une énorme avancée mais il faut néanmoins tenir compte de la nuance suivante, précisée dans le texte de loi : c’est la finalité principale de l’ingrédient qui détermine s’il “peut” être testé sur des animaux. En clair, si l’ingrédient en question est produit principalement à des fins cosmétiques, il ne pourra pas être testé sur des animaux. Si en revanche son utilité première est de fournir d’autres industries (produits de peinture, par exemple), mais que secondairement il peut également être utilisé en cosmétologie, alors ces tests seront malheureusement toujours autorisés.
Le consommateur attentif devra donc continuer à se référer à la liste des produits cosmétiques non testés sur animaux s’il désire être certain d’acheter éthique. “
donc en gros c’est juste du barratin il y aura encore des tests sur les animaux pour la cosmétiques et pour la recherche!!!pffffff
