Conference on the welfare of dogs and cats in the EU - Registration closing soon!
Posted on 02/10/2013
On 28th October, the European Commission will be holding its first conference on the welfare of dogs and cats, with the support of Eurogroup for Animals, the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe and Vier Pfoten International.
This landmark conference, being held in Brussels, will focus on the issues associated with the breeding and trade of dogs and cats in the EU. It is intended to provide stakeholders from all backgrounds - government authorities, NGOs and those with a professional or personal interest - with an opportunity to discuss dog and cat welfare, and establish a means of identifying and tackling the key issues.
The conference will also launch a Commission funded study into the welfare of dogs and cats involved in commercial practices. Based on the outcome of the study and the conference's proceedings, the Commission will consider what further EU action is necessary in order to improve animal welfare and to increase transparency and adequacy of information to consumers.
Amongst the many distinguished speakers, Prince Laurent of Belgium will be in attendance to present an opening address.
Registration for the conference will soon close, and so there is limited time for anyone with an interest in the breeding and trade of dogs and cats to register for the event.
