German Bundesrat backed ban on wild circus animals
Posted on 25/11/2011
Eurogroup is delighted that during its plenary today, the German Second Chamber has finally adopted a bill which will ban the use of wild animals in circuses.
The bill which mentions that monkeys, elephants, big bears, giraffes, rhinos and hippos must be banned in circuses allows to extend the ban to other animals such as big cats and all wild animals in general. By adopting this motion, the Bundesrat sends a clear signal to the German Federal Government to take action and implement the ban as soon as possible. It is very unlikely that the latter would reject this decision, unless it has a strong reasons, in which case it will have to articulate such arguments.
