Presentations from the 3rd meeting of the Transatlantic Animal Welfare Council available

On Thursday 20 September 2012, Eurogroup for Animals organised the 3rd meeting of the Transatlantic Animal Welfare Council in Washington DC, where participants discussed ways to respond to developments in animal welfare-related transatlantic issues and to foster further bonds of cooperation between European and US-based animal protection organisations.
Among those present included representatives of US and EU institutions, researchers, leaders of animal welfare NGOs and consumers. A number of external experts also made presentations and lead the debate including
- Caroline Smith DeWaal, Director of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, US co-chair of the Food Policy Committee of the Trans-Atlantic Consumer Dialogue (TACD)
- Professor Thomas Hartung of John Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health and Director of the Centre for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT)
- Carlos Alvarez-Antolinez, Minister-Counsellor, Food Safety, Health & Consumer Affairs Section of the EU Delegation to the USA
- David Weiner, Deputy Assistant US Trade representative for Europe, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative
