Cages are totally prohibited in Switzerland, Luxembourg and Austria. In Germany, they will be banned from 2025. Across Europe, leading food companies in the industry are pivoting towards selling cage-free eggs.

E.Leclerc Europe retailer have pledged to stop selling cage eggs by 2025.

However, in Spain, the chain does not agree to publicly commit. In Equalia's investigative report, you can see the conditions of the chickens on a farm related to a supermarket supplier E. Leclerc Spain.

Sparing hens from a life in cage is in line with the findings of animal science and the demands of consumers for better animal welfare for animal based products.
