Uruguayan farmers oppose new legislation introducing new requirements for the export of live animals

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Rural Federation (FR) requests an urgent meeting with the hierarch to discuss the new regulations governing the conditions for the transfer of live cattle destined for export.

The letter, signed by Julio Armand Ugón and Angela Chaves, president and secretary of the FR, respectively, highlights the relevance of the export of live cattle, mainly for small-scale producers, and expresses its agreement with compliance of the standards on Animal Welfare, although it disagrees with the self-limitation according to criteria that are not required by international markets.

Hereby, the Rural Federation wishes to express its deepest concern about the possible negative impacts that resolution DGSG / No 283/019 of October 7, 2019, may have on national livestock, especially on small and medium-sized livestock breeder producers.
